The McDowell Energy 55-gallon system gives you a smaller backup-water reserve in a more portable format than our 275-gallon system. Choose it when a smaller capacity and greater portability better fit your needs.

The portable option
Compact storage. Easier mobility.
Our 55-gallon system uses an all-black, BPA-free plastic drum—not a metal barrel. Picture a tall, round drum sitting vertically on its flat base, with a simple black exterior and a smaller footprint than our larger tank system.
The drum is lightweight when empty, making it easier to move and position. When full, it can be moved with a suitable drum dolly or drum-handling hand truck rated for the combined weight of the water, drum, and attached equipment.
This upright design makes our 55-gallon system a more portable option than the 275-gallon system.
Less light. Less opportunity for algae. The black drum helps limit light reaching stored water, which can help discourage algae growth. It does not disinfect water or prevent all bacterial growth. Clean water, a closed tank, and regular cleaning remain essential for safe storage.
All of our water tanks are BPA-free, including the 55-gallon tank. How long your reserve lasts depends on household size and how much water you use.
